Electrical engineering is a technical discipline concerned with the study, design and application of equipment, devices and systems which use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Electrical engineering is now divided into a wide range of fields including, computer engineering, power engineering, telecommunications, radio-frequency engineering, signal processing, instrumentation, and electronics. Many of these disciplines overlap with other engineering branches, spanning a huge number of specializations including hardware engineering, power electronics, electromagnetics and waves, microwave engineering, nanotechnology, electrochemistry, renewable energies, mechatronics, and electrical materials science.

Students with a good CGPA at diploma or other qualifications will be considered for direct second-year entry on a case-by-case basis. The principal aim of the Electrical Engineering program is to equip the students to work at professional level in the multidisciplinary, electrical engineering related industries. An emphasis is placed on the students' ability to learn new things and solve engineering problems, individually or collectively.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical Engineering is a 4-Year Degree program and consist of at least 137 credit hours.

The student's knowledge, skill and attitude are further enhanced through participations in the various competitions and activities at university and national levels. These activities and competitions provide the best platform to test the students' capabilities and performances. The Electrical Engineering Club (EEC) is a student body representing all Electrical Engineering students in the Faculty. EEC is actively involved in organizing visits, talks, seminars and charity works involving all the members. It has contributed greatly in facilitating student members to join the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and the Green Card registration from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).

Local:

1. Pass Foundation in Science from UNISEL/ Matriculation Certificate in Physical Science from Ministry of Education/Private Institution with at least CGPA 2.00 AND pass Malay and English subject in SPM level; or

2. Diploma in Engineering/ Science/ Technology or equivalent from Public/Private Institution with at least CGPA 2.00 AND pass Malay and English subject in SPM level; or

3. Pass STPM or equivalent with 2 principles (NGMP 2.00) inclusive of Mathematics and 1 relevant Science subject AND pass Malay and English subject in SPM level; or

4. Pass other qualification that organized by Malaysian Government.

5. AND Band 2 in Malaysia University English Test (MUET) certificate.

 

International:

1. Pass UEC with at least Grade B in 5 subjects inclusive Mathematics and Science/Technology/Vocational subjects AND a pass in English; or

2. Australian Senior Secondary Qualification;

- Pass South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with a minimum mark of 50 in 5 subjects; or

- Pass Western Australian certificate of Education (WACE) with a minimum grade C; or

- Pass New South Wales Higher School Certificate(NSWHSC) with a minimum of 60 marks (BAND 3); or

- Pass other qualifications recognized by the Australian State.

3. Canadian International Programme (CIMP)/International Canadian Pre-University Programme (ICPU);

- Pass Ontario Secondary School Diploma(OSSD) with a minimum mark of 60% in 6 subjects; or

- Pass other qualifications recognised by resident country/state with Grade 12; or

4. Pass other qualification that organized by Malaysian Government.

AND Candidates MUST Pass with minimum (Band 2) for Malaysia University English Test (MUET) certificate to qualify the entry to enrol into this programme.

The profession offers an extensive range of engineering tasks including research and development, designing, engineering services, telecommunications and supervise the manufacturing of electrical equipment, such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, or power generation equipment. Electrical engineers also design the electrical systems of automobiles and aircraft.

Electrical engineers typically do the following:

  • - Deisgn new ways to use electrical power to develop or improve products
  • - Perform detailed calculations to develop manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications
  • - Direct the manufacture, installation, and testing of electrical equipment to ensure that products meet specifications and codes.
  • - Investigate complaints from customers or the public, evaluate problems, and recommend solutions
  • - Work with project managers on production efforts to ensure that projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
