Description
According to the National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Bioinformatics is the field of science in which biology, computer science, and information technology merge to form a single discipline.
Major activities in bioinformatics are to develop software tools for analyses of biological data and to generate useful biological knowledge.
The students enrolled in this programme will gained knowledge in both field of information technology (IT) and biotechnology.

- Demonstrate in depth theoritical and applied knowledge in bioinformatics and computer application
- Develop effective communication with good interpersonal skills that contribute to life-long learning

Program Learning outcomes
At the end of this programme, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding in biology and information technology
- Analyze, synthesize and evaluate information and knowledge in various disciplines of biotechnology and bioinformatics
- Perform innovative thinking and analytical skills in problem solving
- Utilize modern tools to compute, develop and execute solutions to meet industrial requirements
- Competent in communication and interpersonal skills
- Function effectively as an individual, leader and team work
- Pursue life-long learning to meet global challenges
- Aware of current issues and technological advancement in biotechnology taking into account of commercial, ethical, social, legal and safety issues.
Entry Requirment
- Foundation studies with minimum CGPA 2.00 from UNISEL or
- Matriculation from Education Ministry Malaysia or
- Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or equivalent qualification with at least 2 principals or
- Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with Grade B in 5 relevant subjects including Biology and Chemistry or
- A recognized Diploma in science/ Computer Science/ Information Technology with minimum CGPA 2.00 from government institutes or private institutes that has obtained at least a minimum standard
INTERNATIONAL ENTRY REQUIRMENT
- International candidates must have a qualification equivalent to Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or Diploma recognized by the Government of Malaysia, OR
- Equivalent qualifications recognized by the Government of Malaysia
- English Language Proficiency Requirement :-
1. International students are required to achieve a minimum score of 5.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS), OR
2. Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

- EXPECTED SALARY
- Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary is around RM1,800; plus allowances (such as housing) the total can amount to around RM2,500.
- Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
